It's odd, but I find myself very interested in Fashion Week this year. It's been years since I've been able to show anything more than the mildest curiosity - I call it The Fashion-School Burnout Effect. After living, breathing fashion for two years in London (including working London Fashion Week), I just couldn't bring myself to get very excited. I would peruse the shows at my leisure, usually days or even weeks after the fact. Rely on blogs to tell me what I should look more closely at. Make decisions on the trends as they began to trickle down to something I could feasibly afford. But this year, it feels like it used to. Excitement, awe, greed. Lots and lots of covetousness.
Here are a few of my favorites:

Oh Rag & Bone. Oh! My favorite so far, hands down. Workwear, military influences, the colors, the shoes, the jackets. Can it get any better than this? This encompasses pretty much my entire interest in fashion right now - traditional garments, workwear, military-esque. Cottons and linens and wool and denim. Canvas military green and lots of browns and grays. I am pretty much in love with this entire collection, to be honest. Not to mention it looks like we're on the same brain wave.

Next in line: Alexander Wang. I love to hate on the Wangsters. Nothing against the clothes themselves, but I find a sinful glee in taunting those who slavishly hang on his every hanging thread. But by all that is holy I repent, I really really do. Because this collection is just killing it. I love the old-school football vibe - the leather shoulders, the padded shoulders, the sports-bra and jock-strap detailing, the leather helmuts. It's funny, because I just watched that movie Leatherheads a few days ago and really really enjoyed the 1920s/30s fashions, including the uniforms of the teams. I am loving this, even from a sport that I usually avoid like the plague (and I'm from Texas, this is HARD TO DO).

Yay Vena Cava! I've loved every collection they've done, and this one is no exception. Beautiful frocks, beautiful accessories. This collection is like a punk-rock tea-party on safari. Can't get over the safety-pin accessories (next post will be my DIY version of that safety-pin camisole). Also love the shots of red and orange in the patterns and accessories.

This is just fun! BCBG Max Azria stands for Fucking Sexy Party Dresses, didn't you know? Nothing really new, nothing really awe-inspiring -- just super fun, super sexy party frocks. The colors, the mesh, the bandage body-con look, the abstract paint-splash prints. Love it!

Jen Kao -- really just love the muted palete, the cut-outs and biker-esque detailing. I really really want that jacket in the middle. Fucking sick.

Jenni Kayne put out a nice, simple, American sportswear tribute that is very very wearable. I liked it, but I really liked the sequins. I am a sucker for sequins. In all shapes and forms.
Well, that concludes my first NYFW Spring '10 Favorites Post. Please stand by for more. Coming up: NYFW DIY #1!
